The number one marketing question

    Who is your

target audience?

It's that same old story, no pun intended - author's work hard to build an audience. The problem is that they seem to focus on any and all readers. Ones that are apparently looking for a different type of book.
If your genre is romance, a big fan base of writers won’t really help you that much when you want to sell books.
You need to focus on attracting an audience that would be interested in reading your books. Again, if you write romance, you need an audience of people that like read romance novels. If you write mystery books, you need an audience of people that like to read mysteries. Granted, a wide base may mean that you have a greater word of mouth - but if they aren't interested in your genre - what good is it?
So the greater question is - if you could wave your Harry Potter wand and directly touch the audience that is perfect for your book, who would they look like? There is your focus!
Now the question is - where do you start?
You can find them with written, audio or video aids. Look to social media, podcasts, youtube video's to find your audience. We suggest that you start with one, take six months to perfect it and then move on to another. We also suggest that you start a network with other authors so that you can help to promote each other's work. Of course, that would mean that the group would have to have clear written rules, focus and outcome.
Look to groups like the Breaking Rules Writing Competitions Group on Facebook to help you with that.
As always - Breaking Rules Publishing is continuing to receive manuscript submissions - please send your questions, manuscripts, and inquiries to breakingrulespublishing@gmail.com.
