So How Do YOU Start To Write?

Is this how is all starts? Are you so inspired that you can sit down, start typing and it's like fairies dust is coming out of your computer?

Do you sit down at your desk or in your favorite chair? Do you have music playing or is the room totally quiet?

Do you start right out at the computer or are you an oldie but goodie and start with "pen to paper?"

Do you write at night, in the afternoon or in the morning? Is there always a coffee, soda or adult beverage nearby? And is the ashtray full or empty?

Everyone has their way. The important thing is for you to just sit down and begin. Recently we had one of our authors call us up and ask how to get started on their second book. Our suggestion - to just sit down and start to write. It doesn't even have to be about the

book you want to write. But you have to get your juices flowing and then once you're in the groove - reach out for your story and see if you can find it.

For me personally, I never understood writer's block. I could sit down and write you a story right now about almost anything. Typically for my own stories, I have a little movie running in my head and it just takes a moment for my fingers to catch up with my brain.

For some people, they need to start out with an outline. Other's just start and fly by the seat of their pants. And then you have those who put post-its on the wall above their desk so that they can let the story flow from the ideas, to the posts to their fingers.

The most important thing about writing is that you actually write, and do it a lot. Read, read other writers work and learn from them. And then write some more.

No one said that this was going to be easy - no one said that you were going to get rich either - ALL of this is up to you. What they did say is that you have to enjoy it more than anything else. If you have that - then you are a writer.

Good Luck!
